On the 1st of January 2012 my hot water tank sprung a leak! Not the best way to start the new year but thankfully we have a friend that was kind enough to spend 12 hours taking out the old one and putting a new one in as well as a few other much needed parts on our heating system. I made this thank you card to go with the little gift we got him. The kangaroo and sentiment is from the Stampin' Up set Build-a-Roo. I drew the little tools with my Copic Multiliner and coloured them with SU markers.

Last night was the Stampin' Up card club I attend and it seemed like ages since we last met...our last meeting was in November last year. The theme for last night's swap was a sketch and so I decided to flip it on it's side and make a Thank You card. After photographing it I noticed the sentiment was upside down and probably should have been stamped the other way but hopefully it's not too distracting!

I decided to start the year off with a challenge card....I got so busy towards the end of last year that I just didn't have any time to participate in any card challenges so here's my first for 2012. My card is made with this week's Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps sketch #102. The stripes and the word 'love' are made with a shiny gold cardstock.

I'm starting to feel a little more festive now that we finally have removed the tree from our house. The small amount of damage will have to wait for the warmer weather to be repaired so we will just seal the holes for now.

I chose a tree for my card today and used some of the great silver glimmer paper from Stampin' Up...it makes the best punched out snowflakes!

Sorry I've been gone for so long. We got hit with a big snowstorm on the 29th of October and did not have power for nearly a week. The storm has left a huge mess including a 70 foot red oak tree on our house. Thankfully we are all fine. We are still not sure of the full extent of the damage to our house but are trying to be patient as we wait for the experts to come and give us a quote. There are trees down all over the state so it might be a while!

Things are slowly getting back to normal (whatever that is) and I will hopefully get around to posting a card for you all tomorrow.

One of the fun things about making my own Christmas cards each year is going back through my Christmas stamps and remembering the year I purchased them. I would buy one Christmas stamp each year and make all my Christmas cards the same. Today's card uses a stamp I purchased in 2005 for that reason. Over the last few years I've made all my Christmas cards different which allows me to go back and re-visit my favourites year after year...and of course purchase a few new ones too!!!

Today's card is my swap card that I made for the Stampin' Up card club I attend each month...I can hardly believe it's been a month since the last one...where does the time fly! Anyway, this month's swap theme was Fall/Halloween and so I made a Thinking of You card in Fall colours. I pieced the background together and then stamped just the flowers from the featured stamp in Versamark ink...you have to look very closely to see them in the photograph. I punched the sentiment out with the scalloped oval punch and then cut the top and bottom off. I didn't have any ribbon that really matched so I used a strip of co-ordinating cardstock.

I can hardly believe it's the middle of September...the leaves are already starting to change colours here in New Hampshire and Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner! I'm taking a little break from my "Floral Fridays" and replacing them with "Festive Fridays" so I can get a head start on all my holiday cards. There are 15 weeks left until Christmas so I really need to be making several a week!

I have two to share with you today...the first one uses a quote from the Stampin' Up set Occasional Quotes and I wanted to keep the card soft, simple and peaceful. I tore the white paper to create the snow on the mountains and ground and made the magic wand with my Martha Steward snowflake punch.

The second card is another clean and simple design using Stampin' Up's Peaceful Season. I coloured the SU rhinestones with my red Copic marker to make the berries.

I have owned the background paper on this card for approximately 15 years! It's from a set of scrapbook papers I purchased when I started to scrapbook and at the time I really didn't like it...it seemed very dull for the pages of my baby boy's scrapbook. Unfortunately, I only have a small piece left but I think I will use it and not store it for another 15 years!

I mentioned last week that I was nearly coming to the end of my Floral Design course...I still have one module left and a few more weeks of arrangements to share. Thank you to all who have left such encouraging comments...I'm so glad you've enjoyed me sharing my arrangements with you each week.

Today's arrangement is a Formal Linear arrangement which is not my favourite to design but today's has special meaning. I had to include a 'treasure' in this design too so I chose a little mosaic ball that my Mum recently made for me and if you look closely at it you will see Australia on it. It's sitting on a frame made out of Equisetum (Snake Grass) and raffia. The little Australia is made out of different shades of orange and green glass to depict the outback (where I use to live) and tropical coast (where my Mum lives) and I used the orange in my design in the Gerbera Daisies and Cymbidium Orchards. The little yellow flower you see is Kangaroo Paw to tie in the Orchards and Australian theme! There is a little Ming Fern and Bear Grass which always adds a little movement and whimsy to any design.

It's hard to believe that I am nearly finished with my Floral Design course...it's been very interesting learning about all the different styles of design and also different flowers and foliage that I wouldn't normally reach for. Today's arrangement is my Interpretive Landscape flower arrangement using Gerbera Daisies, Ornithogalum, Hypericum, Curly Willow, Ivy, Galax and Pittosporum. I needed to include a treasure in my design so I used a little bird's nest I found a few weeks ago while mowing my grass. Its hard to see in the photo but there is a little bird ornament in the nest too.

It's a busy birthday week here in my house...today is my daughter's 13th birthday. I now officially have two teenagers in the house! My daughter loves to bake cupcakes with me, loves shoes with heels and her favourite colours at the moment are green and pink! The other day, we came home from a neighbours pool and I asked her for her wet towel so I could hang it over the shower rail only to turn around and discover that she had done it all by herself! She is very excited that she is only a 1/4 of an inch shorter than me and will very soon be taller than me!

I've been very busy lately and haven't had much time to participate in all my favourite challenges but when I saw this week's Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge I couldn't resist. First of all the inspiration verse is one of my favourites..."Be still and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10 and secondly the challenge is to make a CAS card...Clean and Simple! My arrangement today is a Flemish arrangement which is a traditional European design where 'more is better' and the designs often include alternative materials such as shells, birds, and food items! This is my interpretive Ikebana arrangement. Ikebana is Japanese for 'arrangement of living plant materials'. There are many rules and guidelines for designing Ikebana arrangements but this is more of an interpretive design...however the three iris represent Shin (Heaven), Soe (Man) and Hikae (Earth). I've also included some Ming Fern, Solidaster, Ivy, Statice, Pittosporum and Bear Grass.

Things have been crazy busy here over the last couple of months and tomorrow is the last day of school for my kids so perhaps things will quieten down over the summer??? I haven't had as much time to make cards and I've been missing participating in as many challenges as I would like but today's card is for June's Tangled Up in Creativity challenge hosted by Lynn over at A Left-Brained Stamper. Luckily for me her only request is that we incorporate torn paper somewhere in our design. I kept it fairly simple, paper pieced the word 'love' and had fun adding a little doodling to my card with my white gel pen.

Here's another fairy I told you about the other day...I had fun colouring them in all different colour combinations!

I learnt recently that the Ladybug is the state insect of New Hampshire...we certainly see alot here! What some of you may not know is that in Australia we call them Ladybirds which is much prettier than their real name Coccinellidae! I smile every time I see one as they are so cute and where I was living in Australia we didn't see them very often. Here in NH they are considered a pest and a nuisance and travel in huge numbers...to me they will always be the Ladybird!
