A bargain shopping day!

I went shopping a couple of weeks ago with my neighbour and found these little magnetic note holders for $1! When you go shopping do look for little things that would be great altered with stamps, pretty papers and ribbons or is it just me?

The picture on the front has some ugly dents but I knew I could make a new front and it would make a lovely gift. Unfortunately, the little matching pen didn't work so I replaced it and added some matching ribbons to dress it up a bit. The stamp reads "Some Pursue Happiness, Others Create it."

The stamp I used on the front was also found at the same discount store as the note holder and it too was only a $1! I liked it so much I had to make a card with it...in one of my favourite colour combos navy and white!

Last Tuesday's Trigger over at Moxie Fab World was to use Betsy Veldman's card below as inspiration for our own card.


Here's what her card inspired me to make...I love buttons and thought this was a perfect design to show them off! It was about 10 years ago when I was busy quilting that I discovered how much I liked buttons...not just using them but collecting them! Who knew my collection would come in so handy years later? I love using buttons on my cards...they are great by themselves, threaded with cotton or even tied with a ribbon! They go perfectly with ribbons, fabric or lace and can easily be matched to different papers. I love adding texture to my cards and buttons are a great way to do it! I store my buttons mostly according to colour so it was easy to find lots of different purple buttons for this monochromatic card.

You're Simply The Best!

I made today's card for this week's Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World. The flower stamp was stamped twice to get the two different shades of pink. Whenever cutting out my small stamped images I always use my 3 1/2" decoupage scissors with a curved tip...they make cutting into small, tight areas a breeze!

Below is the trigger photo for this week's challenge. I think you can see I was inspired by the colours, flowers and spotty fabric.

Last Valentine's Day card....I promise!

Ok, I just had to share one last card I made for my husband and kids. I found these red heart shaped Lindt truffles the other day and thought they would make a perfect card. I traced around them onto red cardstock and cut them out. The little hearts were stamped with the SU Love you Much set and punched out with the SU heart punch. I then inked around the edges with red ink before adhering them to the card with little foam dots. The sentiment comes from a Unity kit of the month set and I inked around it too. I kept it fairly plain and simple as I'm sure the truffles will get eaten faster than I could make the card!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you are all having a lovely Valentine's Day. The last Valentine's card I'm going to share with you this year features a stamp designed by me...a Lone Pine Designs original! Last year I sent a few of my designs to a company who made clear unmounted stamps out of them. I was impressed by the idea but not impressed with the outcome. I really like the traditional red rubber stamp as they stamp much clearer and are easier to keep clean. Anyway, this stamp is perfect for Valentine's Day so I thought I would make a card with it.

I stamped the design on white cardstock and then again on the patterned paper. I cut out the heart from the patterned paper and glued it to the image on the white cardstock. I then coloured around the border with a matching Copic marker, mounted it on co-ordinating patterned paper and tied with a lovely, white silk bow.

Love You Much

Here's another card for Valentine's Day with more of that gorgeous silk ribbon in pink! Didn't I tell you I can't resist pink! When I use the silk ribbon I like to keep the layout simple so that the ribbon is the feature. I did colour the word Love in with Copics in shades of pink to match the cardstock and ribbon.

A few days ago I mentioned I was working on some Valentine's Day treats for my daughter's 5th grade class. I finally finished them! I stamped the top of the treat bag with a stamp out of Stampin' Up's Love You Much set and used a scallop punch to cut it out. I then coloured the stamp with SU's red marker. The little cellophane treat bags are filled with Hershey's Hugs and Kisses. The ribbon I used is actually a ribbon meant for floral arrangements. It's sort of nylon and doesn't make very nice bows.....however it does work great if you lay it flat and so it worked perfectly as an accent for these little treats. I've had this spool of ribbon for about 14 years so it was nice to finally find a use for it! The second photo shows all 30 of them!

Love is Patient

Can you believe that it is February already! With Valentine's Day just around the corner I thought over the next couple of weeks I would show you a few of the cards I've made for the holiday. I've also been busy making Valentine's Day treats for my daughter's class mates (I'll show you those in a few days when they are finished). I have found Valentine's Day a little different in America. In Australia it is centered around giving gifts/cards to your husband/wife/boy friend/girl friend etc....here in America everybody gives Valentine's Day cards to everyone!

Here is my first card which features the lovely bible verse from 1 Corinthians 13, Love is patient, Love is Kind.....stamped in burgundy ink to match the burgundy cardstock and tied with my most favourite 100% silk ribbon....a very recent discovery...isn't it gorgeous...it ties the most beautiful bows.

A little about me....

I honestly thought I would never have my own blog and here I am typing my very first entry. What a great place to share all my creations. I have been stamping for over 25 years and it all started when a friend of my mothers gave me an old box of rubber stamps that she used for teaching Sunday School. I loved that box of stamps and have been stamping ever since. I remember stamping and embossing all my wedding invitations with my Mum....17 years ago. I grew up in Australia and at the time we had not heard of an embossing gun so we embossed all the invitations over the element on the stove....and burnt a few in the process!

After graduating University with a Teaching Degree I moved to the Australian Outback to teach which is where I met my American husband and had both my lovely children. We lived there for 13 years and then moved to the US at the beginning of 2005. It’s been a huge adjustment for me but being able to create in my craft room has kept me sane. I have friends and family scattered all over the world and I love sending them my handmade cards.....it’s like sending them a little piece of me. I recently discovered Operation Write Home that collects handmade cards to send to the troops overseas so they can send cards to their loved ones. I love being able to donate my cards to this wonderful cause because I know how much it means to send them.

For my first post I thought I would share a card I made for Australia Day this year which is celebrated every year in Australia on the 26th of January. Happy Australia Day to all my Aussie family and friends!
