Birthday Angel

Last Wednesday's OWH Stars and Stamps midweek throwdown was a recipe challenge...to make a card using a die cut or punch, ribbon and heat or dry embossing!

I punched out 5 hearts and glued them together to make the button...I finished it off with some Crystal Effects and tied it with some embroidery thread. I hand ruffled the ribbon to match the ruffles in the angels dress and I embossed the background with an embossing folder.

The Playdate Cafe is holding a Colour Horribilis Challenge this week with the colours hot pink, navy blue and mustard.

When I pulled these colours onto my craft table I have to admit I did screw up my nose! Navy blue and hot pink are great together but with mustard...icky! But the strangest thing happened...as I looked at my card I liked the finished product. I'm not sure I'll use these colours together again but I think I made it work?????

The Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World this week is this photo: Light & Bright...

I decided to make a baby card (because I needed one) in the colours from the photo and used clean lines like the furniture in the photo. I mainly used white to keep it light and bright! When I printed the photo on my printer the colours looked like Stampin' Up's Pacific Point blue, Rose Red and Apricot Appeal...looking at the photo on my screen I can now see that the colours should have been Taken With Teal, Melon Mambo and YoYo Yellow...I might have to try this challenge again!

This week's Ippity challenge is to add paint to your card/project! I dug out my watercolour paints and painted a little heart to go with the verse from the Ippity set Devoted. I love painting inchies....one inch squares of chipboard...but this square is a little larger at 1 1/2 ".

A Little Pickup

Danielle, over at D-Dazzled Designs is hosting Tangled Up In Creativity's challenge this week. She challenged us to:-

1. Create a card using the colour 'Pacific Point' blue by Stampin' Up!
2. Make it suitable for a male recipient
3. Incorporate ribbon or the look of ribbon into your design.

This challenge was perfect timing because I needed a masculine "Thinking of You" card for a family friend in Australia who is having surgery this week...I want something to be waiting for him when he gets home from hospital in a couple of weeks. I decided to use stamps from the SU set Loads of Love and while I was looking through my patterned papers I came across this one from SU and it reminded me of tire tracks so I cut strips of it to use in place of ribbon.

My heart trusts in Him

This week's Stampin Sisters in Christ challenge is to make something that represents what could be your life verse, a place where God has revealed to you that you can trust in Him, something representing a turning point in your life, or just focusing on Psalm 56:3..."When I am afraid, I will trust in THEE."

Cindy Coutts is this week's host and she courageously shared why Psalm 56:3 has special meaning to her. Her story resonated with me and brought back lots of memories of my big move to America five years ago. It was a very scary time for me and for the first time in my life I learnt what it truly meant to "trust in Him". This helped me tremendously over the last five years and although I may not always understand God's plan for my life I know He has one and that makes me joyful and gives me reason to give thanks...hence the choice of verse for my card today..."The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in Song." Psalm 28:7

I really enjoy the Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Triggers and this week was no exception. Here's this weeks trigger: An exercise in exotic...

I knew as soon as I saw it I wanted to incorporate some beads onto my card. The paper was a different story...as I was looking through my stash of patterned papers I just couldn't find anything that seemed to fit the challenge so I dug out my scrap bucket and it all seemed to come together. I'm Here For You

When I saw the colour challenge this week over at Play Date Cafe I thought I would give it a miss as the colours just didn't speak to me. Then I thought that was silly...isn't it supposed to be a challenge?

I've been wanting to make a card using my Cricut and the Storybook cartridge for ages and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to dig it out. I very rarely use my Cricut for card making...I mainly use it for scrapbooking and I really haven't been doing too much of that lately! I chose the lovely sentiment from Unity's KOTM April 2010 and paper pierced around the card to match the sentiment.

When I saw the new set, House a Home, I thought it was time to make another house! They are so much fun to make and this time I used the large chipboard house from Doodlebug Design Inc. I used 8 stamps from 4 of the new Summer sets and all the papers from the Summer paper pack. I think my favourite part is the birds on the window sill...only three fit so I put the fourth bird on the fence! The side windows have lace curtains and the bottom windows have flowers from Bitty Pixie Paisley...they're a little hard to see because it was difficult to photograph! It's almost a foot tall!

A Card for the Fall

I grew up in Australia and I never really experienced the Fall (we actually call it Autumn in Australia) until moving to New Hampshire. Wow, what a spectacular time of year! The colours here are absolutely amazing and although it's lots of work picking up all the leaves and pine needles I really don't mind. I love the crackle underfoot, the wonderful smell and of course all the beautiful, changing colours.

This week's OWH Stars and Stamps midweek throwdown challenge is to make a fall themed, any occasion card with no sentiment on the front. I used a stamp from the new Ippity set So This is Love and airbrushed it with my Copics.

I made today's card for last Monday's Ippity challenge - Dog days of Summer...create anything you want, using {ippity} stamps, that makes you think of summertime. I thought of the sun, the sea and walking along the beach looking for shells. Here's my card and the cute little shell in the corner is actually a button...I cut off the shank so that it would lay flat on my card.

I have four cards to share with you today. The first card is for today's {Ippity} Rainbow Challenge which is to use ALL the colours of the rainbow on your project RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, and PURPLE. I used stamps from the new set Quotes a'la Happy...I love this set!

The second card was made for today's {Ippity} Shape Card Challenge...make any shaped card. It can be die cut or hand cut, as long as it is the main shape of your card. I chose to use the new set House A Home and hand cut my card to look like one of the houses in the set and it fits into a standard card size envelope. This card also uses paper from the {Ippity} Summer Paper Pack by Echo Park.


The third card is for today's {Ippity} Inspiration Challenge using the photo below....

...here's my card. The sentiment is from the new {Ippity} set Authentic Man , the swirls are from Now & Always and the heart from Music Of My Heart.

Lastly, I airbrushed this card and used stamps from the {Ippity} set Totally Happy. There are so many great stamps in this Summer Collection which are perfect for airbrushing...I can't wait to airbrush them all!

So Very Sorry

The Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge this week is to create a card of apology or one reaching out to someone and encouraging them to put the past behind them and move forward.

I have a funny story about this card...I have a large bag of lace and cream ribbons left over from a quilt I made many years ago and I dug it out to find a piece of lace for this card and left the bag next to my chair on the floor as I really had no room left on my table! I left the room for about 15 minutes and when I returned I had lace and ribbons from one end of my craft room to the other...wound around chair legs and table legs and a very sheepish looking cat in the corner...I'm sure if she could speak she would have said "so very sorry".

Here is my cat, Snowflake, asleep on the window in my craft room!

My very first Stampin' Up set was Unfrogettable...and it is still one of my favourites. I used one of the frogs on today's clean and simple notecard. The sentiment is handwritten in SU marker to match the frog.

Ippity Christmas Challenge

I'm loving all these Christmas challenges lately....at this rate I'll have my Christmas cards made in plenty of time to send most of them to Australia. I love making cards but it always seems like such a chore trying to get them all finished and in the mail in time! December is always so busy!

Anyway....this week's Ippity challenge is to make a Christmas card and I decided to combine stamps from both the Ippity Christmas sets Kissmas & Mistletoe and Season of Joy to make this card. It was tough to photograph with all the gold but hopefully you'll be able to see it ok....the background paper has a repeated "Happy Holidays" in gold on it and I stitched the buttons on the bows with gold embroidery thread.
